Dear Student,
You are invited to take part in a research study ‘Understanding undergraduate students' perspective on the teaching and learning support needs of third-level students post-COVID-19 Emergency Remote Teaching.’ This study has been approved by the MHLS Research Ethics Committee.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the associated Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) brought significant changes to the way teaching and learning were delivered in higher education, with increased reliance on digital tools and remote learning. These changes have shaped students’ academic and personal experiences, influencing their engagement and progress.
We are seeking your valuable input to explore the lessons learned, opportunities presented, and challenges that remain in higher education post-COVID-19 ERT. The three areas of focus are:
• Student expectations
• Teaching and learning support needs
• Opportunities for enhancement of support services
What does participation involve?
You are invited to participate in a focus group lasting approximately 60 minutes. Discussions will be facilitated by a member of the research team and audio-recorded. Your responses will remain confidential and anonymised. One-to-one interviews are also available if preferred.
How to participate:
Please find attached the Participant Information Sheet, which provides further details about the study. Kindly read this before deciding to participate. If you agree to take part, you will provide your informed consent on the day of the focus group.
If you have any questions or would like to express your interest in participating, please contact Dr Marina de Almeida McLoughlin at m.dealmeidamcloughlin@qub.ac.uk
Thank you for considering this opportunity to share your perspective and contribute to improving the teaching and learning experience for all students.
Kind regards,
Etain
On behalf of the researchers:
Professor Etain Tansey, Drs Aisling Keane, Marina de Almeida McLoughlin, and Joe Quinn
