The Sir Thomas Houston Medal Prize Exam, Microbiology and Biochemistry is open to Year 3 Medical Students

The Thomas Houston Medal has traditionally been awarded to the top student in microbiology. This year the winner of the prize will be determined by an assessed case study.
Third year students who wish to be considered for the prize should write up an interesting infection case that they have seen during one of their clinical attachments.
The format for the case study should be:
· Case history and examination findings
· Investigations
· Diagnosis and treatment
· Case discussion – epidemiology, microbiology, brief focused literature review
Students should include 3-4 key learning points at the end. Please include a cover sheet for your essay submission to include student name, student number and email address.
Patient data should be anonymised, and all submissions are to be accompanied by a letter or note from the consultant responsible for their care that the details included accord with the facts.
The essay submission should be no more than a max of 500 words.
