Royal College of Ophthalmologists annual prize

Post by lbrabon »

Dear QUB Medical Students,

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists run an annual prize exam for medical students. Its called the "Duke Elder" exam, and is done remotely. Here is the link to information about it, including dates: https://www.rcophth.ac.uk/examinations/ ... amination/
(The exam is on 3rd September 2025.)

Its MCQs, and if you are potentially interested in Ophthalmology, its worth doing. You can enter any year, and can enter again in any later year, as often as you want.

The MCQs are of course mostly more difficult than Progress Test or AKT questions, as a prize exam. There are online resources specifically for it, and don't forget the QUB Ophthalmology Society may be able to advise too. Its interesting to do (you'll learn much medicine just from doing the paper), and it helps applications to Ophthalmology ST posts, especially if you get a placing in the top 20, you never know!.

Please complete the form linked to here BEFORE MONDAY MAY 5TH 2025:
https://forms.office.com/e/cG1Mnwm8bd

After you fill in the form, I will forward your info to the RCOphth, who will then contact you directly about payment (it costs £60).

I do hope lots of you enter and sit the exam. Have a look at the online info linked to above, and the Candidate Info Pack on that website, and email me if you have any queries about it!

Best wishes,

Dr Williams
