Hi, my name is Grace, a recent graduate of QUB. I work as an Educational Outreach Coordinator at The Ehlers-Danlos Society, where we believe that the next generation of clinicians and scientists will transform the future of care for people with Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD).
Yet today, people living with these conditions face an uphill battle to diagnosis.
"The average time to diagnosis remains 10-12 years, leading to unnecessary suffering and potential complications. A 2023 study by Colin Halverson, PhD (Indiana University School of Medicine) found that individuals with hypermobile EDS (hEDS) receive an average of 10 misdiagnoses before getting an accurate diagnosis. (Accelerating Action for Women with EDS and HSD)
These statistics drove us to create the EDS ECHO Healthcare Student Program, a free global initiative offered by The Ehlers-Danlos Society. We invite your students to be a part of the next chapter in medical education.
This program is open to students in any healthcare discipline studying at a recognized organization/institution worldwide. The term healthcare discipline is broad and includes anyone studying physical therapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, nutrition, clinical psychology, counseling, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, medical assistant practice, paramedic practice, dentistry, etc.
The program is supported by donations, making it completely free for participants.
Participants will gain access to:
• A structured core learning program running in three blocks: (Jan–Mar, May–Jul, Sept–Nov 2026). These will typically run on the second Tuesday of the month at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm ET (USA & Canada), starting with an introductory session on January 13, 2026. To find the time in your time zone, please visit www.worldtimebuddy.com
• The full suite of EDS ECHO Programs and drop-in sessions running in 2026, and a library of EDS ECHO past expert presentations.
• Virtual access to one-day events, including The Ehlers-Danlos Society’s Annual Global Learning Conference.
• Certification of participation for elective/portfolio use.
• A vibrant network of student peers, mentors, and healthcare professionals worldwide with an interest in EDS and HSD.
Applications will open in mid-September. If you know students ready to start their journey with us, please invite them to share their expression of interest by emailing echo@ehlers-danlos.com with their full name and email address.
All the best,
Grace Kully | Educational Outreach Coordinator | she/her
