An Invitation to Create a Lasting Legacy with Return with Care

Post by bakpobome »

Dear Year 1 Medical Students,

Last week, Road Victim Support NI Donegal had the privilege of speaking with you about the reality faced by families in the aftermath of a fatal road traffic collision. We launched our Return with Care program — a simple but profoundly important act of returning the belongings of loved ones with dignity, respect, and compassion.

You heard how every item, no matter how ordinary or damaged it may seem, holds immeasurable meaning for the families left behind. What might appear to others as insignificant can become a deeply treasured reminder of the person they loved. By handling these belongings with care, you ensure that families receive not just possessions, but comfort, humanity, and respect in their darkest moments.

We want to sincerely thank you for listening with open hearts and for taking on board the weight of this message. Your attentiveness and empathy give us great hope for the future of healthcare.

Now, just one week later, we’d like to invite you to take this message further. You have the unique opportunity to become the very first group to actively promote and support the Return with Care initiative. By starting small fundraising efforts within your year group, you can help us provide the specially designed boxes and resources that bring solace to grieving families.

This could be something simple — a coffee morning, a quiz night, a sponsored walk, or any creative idea you can come up with together. What matters is not the size of the event, but the heart behind it.

By stepping forward, you will not only be raising funds, but also creating an extraordinary legacy: the first group of future doctors who championed Return with Care and set the tone for compassion and humanity in medicine.

We would be honoured to have you join us in this mission. Together, you can make a real and lasting difference.

With gratitude and hope,

Debbie Mullan
