Welcome

At Queen's University a group of academics from medicine, nursing, pharmacy and biomedical sciences got together with an elearning developer to explore how a virtual case could be used to foster inter-professional approaches to teaching.

The virtual case concerns a patient with a stroke. It has the dual purpose of developing clinical knowledge and an understanding by healthcare students of each other's roles. It is hoped that this will help students understand the wider picture of the journeys patients take in the healthcare process.

This website is designed to convey to educators the processes involved in this pilot project and in particular how a group of healthcare educators were able to collaborate effectively.

We also provide access to the learning materials developed so far for use within the curriculum. The case is split into six chapters and follows our patient, Mr Joseph Atkinson, from home to hospital and back home. Each chapter consists of multimedia elements, including self-assessment and the ability to print out a personalised record of learning.

Please feel free to use this material with your students and we would appreciate your comments and feedback which would help inform further development of similar packages.
